Back at the Blog
I'm back! After a semester-long hiatus, I realized I'm never going to write in a paperback journal again, unless it's for the purpose of documenting ideas for Heidi's and my future sitcom. And I miss writing about stuff. So here goes.
Today is a great day. It's snowing for about the 900th time this month. No complaints here, I love snow! It gives one the perpetual joy of feeling snowed in. There's also nothing quite like the feeling of being finished with a semester of working hard, but only as hard as a 4th-semester grad student should have to work. After writing two 20-page papers and a policy brief in two weeks, I'm getting used to churning out solid mediocrity. Papers on the plight of Muslims in secular France, on the extent of Hezbollah's "Lebaneseness" (I didn't use that word in the paper, but it's pretty cool, ain't it?), and on the failure of sanctions against Iran (only slightly acknowledging the NIE that suggested they might actually work - it surfaced the same week my paper was due, what could I have done?) all resulted from this madness.
Now I sit at the computer in my living room, having finished my Christmas shopping this morning. I went to Macy's and at the entrance was persuaded by the presence of the Boston Police Commish and several charming bell-ringers to donate some pennies to the Salvation Army. I'm a sucker for people who make me feel like I'm doing something really important.
This afternoon, it's laundry, gift-wrapping, and "fun" reading. Then tonight it's small group and over to Sarah's to watch "It's a Wonderful Life." Tomorrow we go home to Chattanooga. Who could ask for more?
